Since giving up caffeine a little over 12 months ago I am still struggling to find a replacement for my “tea belly”.
I have tried the decaf and to my taste buds there wasn’t too much difference but the horror stories of how they take out the caffeine was enough to put me off that quite quickly. Herbal teas were next on my hit list but again, there is the risk of tooth decay associated with most of the fruit teas, so I have stuck to the peppermint, chamomile and nettle but to be honest there is only so many of those I can stomach in a day. Water is the logical beverage for anybody embracing a healthy lifestyle but truth be told, I always preferred it better with a tea bag in it although I am getting better.
I am rather partial to a Costa Coffee medium skinny Chai Latte but again milk isn’t great for me so these are the occasional treat – so what is a girl to do?
So now I am on a mission to find something that ticks all the boxes and has great health benefits.
Today, I have found my first yummy substitute for my Chai Latte. It is packed full of fab ingredients which are great for addressing my Fibro symptoms.
I am going to call it Turmeric-Tastic but officially it is Golden Tea.
You can see from the picture on the right, it looks great, tastes fab and is really easy to make – result!!
Ingredients:
1 large cup of Coconut Milk
1 tsp of Turmeric (powdered is fine) which has great anti-inflammatory properties and is anti-spasmodic so soothes IBS symptoms.
1 tsp of Ginger (fresh or powdered is OK) relieves the pain and swelling of arthritis, is anti-inflammatory, calms nausea and vomiting.
1 tsp of Cinnamon great for relieving the symptoms of IBS
1 tsp of Honey a natural source of carbohydrates which provides strength and energy to the body and helps prevents fatigue
Method:
Add all of the ingredients together in a blender and mix for a few seconds. Then heat the milk gently for a few minutes in a saucepan until hot but not boiling. Pass the milk through a tea strainer and serve – enjoy!
