It is no secret that one of our biggest enemies as Fibromyalgia sufferers is stress. Each day, the stressors we are exposed to can trigger a flare and generally inflame our already painful condition. Therefore it is essential to adopt some coping strategies for when stressful conditions threaten to overwhelm us.
As we battle with what seems like a billion and one ailments, it is hard sometimes to get some instant relief which only leads to frustration and anxiety. What do you use for an instant pick me up or how do you calm yourself in a stressful situation?
Acupressure is a great technique which has been shown to help alleviate some of our Fibromyalgia symptoms including stress. The good news is that we are able to apply some of these pressures to ourselves as a quick and effective first aid as and when we need them.
What Is Acupressure?
Acupressure is very similar to acupuncture and relies on using various points on the body. The fingertips are used to apply pressure to the areas to unblock the energy channels as opposed to the use of needles. It is similar in some respects to reflexology which solely concentrates on the hands and feet.
How Does Acupressure Help Fibromyalgia Sufferers?
Studies have shown that both acupuncture and acupressure (predominantly acupuncture) have been proven to be highly beneficial for fibromyalgia sufferers. The actual physiological reasons are not clear but research has shown that fatigue, stress and anxiety are significantly lower in those patients who have received both acupuncture and acupressure.
I have added for you some acupressure exercises that you can use to calm and also to energise. Just follow the sub headings on this page. Enjoy!!
